I am thrilled to share Jennifer and Shannon’s sweet engagement session in San Francisco with you. I first met Jennifer while photographing her sister’s wedding a few years ago- she’s a part of a wonderful and fun family so I’m doubly excited to work with them again!! Here’s what she had to say about her love story and proposal:
Shannon and I actually met online on match.com. So I had done online dating for a bit, went on many many many dates with no such luck. A perfect example of having to kiss A LOT of frogs before finding my prince. :). Shannon on the other hand is batting .1000. I was his first (and last) match.com date! I spotted Shannon’s profile pic on Mother’s Day 2013. I didn’t actually have an active account at the time. Since I hadn’t had any luck, I was giving the online dating thing a break. But for some reason I got online that night, just to see if anyone piqued my interest. That’s when I spotted Shannon. He was a firefighter, active, and cute! I tried to message him, but you can’t message people unless you are actively paying for a profile. I tried to activate my account (pay) but for some reason I kept getting an error. So I settled for “winking” at him and went to bed, and would figure the account out first thing in the am. Turns out that once I got into my account, Shannon had already written me a message a few weeks prior but since I wasn’t active I didn’t see it. He kept checking for my response, but nothing. I wrote him back instantly and we just bypassed match and exchanged numbers. We connected immediately and set up a dinner date for the next day at Mikuni downtown Sacramento. After sushi we walked around the state capital talking for hours. At one point we stopped in the capital rose garden and hugged. I was secretly hoping for a kiss, but Shannon was a perfect gentleman. And that was it, we’ve been together ever since! We got engaged on June 11, 2014, a year and a month after our first date. Shannon suggested a mid week date night and I didn’t think anything of it. He took me to my favorite wine bar, and then suggested we go walk around the capital like we did on our first date. We hadn’t been back to do that since then. I of course was all about it. He took me straight to the rose garden and gave me a big kiss since he missed that on our first date. We walked around some more looking at the flowers and he asked me to find my favorite flower. I found it and then he took my hands and got down on one knee and proposed! It was perfect! After he suggested we go to our favorite bar downtown the Shady Lady and celebrate. Waiting at the bar was my parents and sister and bro in law! They had a cake and cards for us. Shannon had planned this for months with my mom and dad, and my mom kept it a secret! It was such an amazing night!! :)
