Describe the proposal: I had a feeling the proposal was coming soon and so when Kevin sent me a text that he wanted to take me out to a nice dinner I got super excited and nervous. I didn’t want to expect so I prepared myself just in case it wasn’t going to happen. I arrived at his place and he was at the parking lot waiting for me, all dressed up and looking handsome as usual ☺ He tells me that he left his glasses so we walk over to his apartment, once he opens the door, he starts to play music on his laptop. In front of me he has set up 120 stems of my favorite flowers and his favorite pictures of us framed. Kevin got down on one knee and tells me that he wrote me a poem and of course the waterworks begin. I have always wanted him to write me a poem and how perfect that the first ends with “Will you do me the honor of marrying me?”

Did you have a theme for your wedding for invites, décor etc.? If so, what inspired the theme? Our theme was Rustic Spring. We were inspired by our ceremony and reception venues as well as the colors of the flowers we wanted to use. I love color and so I wanted to use lots of different colors that compliment each other.

What colors did you choose? We started with the bridesmaids wearing Mint and the Groom & Groomsmen wearing gray. The Jr. bridesmaids wore mint, the flower girls wore hot pink and the little boys wore a bright spring blue.  The flowers were spring colors: coral, pink, hot pink, yellow, peach, bright purple.

Describe your wedding: I am not a glitzy girl so I wanted a dress that had no sparkle or beading and I didn’t want to wear a bright white. I wasn’t really sure what silhouette would work with my body type so I was open to all sorts of styles. I found a shop on yelp that had great reviews. The owner picked out some styles for me and I believe it was the second dress I put on. I didn’t want to take it off and that’s when I knew it was the one for me. It was a hybrid between a trumpet and an A-line silhouette. It was this beautiful lace that I never saw before which was what made it really special. I felt like it might’ve needed some sort of belt or sash and surprisingly I loved the blingiest one in the store. My husband told me that when he saw me in the dress during our first look, He thought to himself that I couldn’t have picked a more perfect dress :)

Describe your wedding flowers: I do floral design so the flowers were SUPER important. I took advantage of the spring season and used Peonies in Pink, Hot Pink, White & Coral, Juliet Garden Roses, bright purple anemones, yellow craspedia, lavender sweet peas and parrot tulips and different colored spray roses (this is because sadly my favorite flower ranunculus were unavailable that week) I also used viburnum, geranium, mint and dusty miller for filler.

What was your first dance song?  We used Corinne Bailey Rae’s version of “Is this Love?” My husband and I are both fans of Bob Marley and we loved his original version of the song. Often times, he would randomly take my hand and slow dance with me while singing this song. So when I heard her version of the song, we knew this would be our first dance.

Describe the music played during your wedding. My husband was a very involved groom so he really chose what we would play. We started out with a violin version of John Legend’s “All of me” He really liked the song and thought it was representative of us. We played the Piano Guys version of “Over the Rainbow” for when the kids were walking and “Man and Wife” by Michelle Featherstone which is actually a song introduced to me by our friend/photographer Erica :) For the Recessional we played Pharrell’s “Happy”. For the reception, we played “My girl” for the Mother-Son dance and “Isn’t she lovely” for the Father-Daughter dance. As for the after party, we just wanted something fun for everyone… with a mix of 90s jams.

What foods were served? We hired Farm to Table Catering. We wanted fresh, local and delicious food and they sure delivered. Cocktail Hour: Prosciutto & Melon Bites, Caramelized onion, fig & Gorgonzola bruschetta. Dinner: Everyone got a plated dinner with Grilled herb-crusted flat-iron steak with salsa verde over roasted garlic Yukon gold mashed potatoes, Oven-roasted salmon topped with lemon aioli over Parmesan & herb polenta and Grilled seasonal veggies. Desserts: Our wedding cake was made by our friend Tashani of Baker Chix and she mad a two layered cake. One layer is vanilla lemon and they other is caramel apple. She used a buttercream icing. We also hired Volkswaffle as a surprise dessert for the guests. They had a choice of different flavored waffles and toppings.

The most unexpected event on our wedding day was… seeing Kevin’s 1 1/2 nephew Dean to walk down the aisle with a sign saying, “Uncle Kevin, here comes your bride.” Everyone doubted that he would make it down the aisle since he is so young. Dean walked down the aisle like a BOSS… he was so great!

What was unique about your wedding? I think there were a lot of unique elements at our wedding, but I think the most unique and was our surprise dessert. In lieu of a dessert table, we hired Wolkswaffle waffle truck. The truck was set up outside our reception venue complete with stanchions and a red carpet. The waffles were DELICIOUS and was such a hit! We still hear about how good it was months after the wedding.
